Grades 5-8 Many technologies that we enjoy and take for granted today actually started in ancient civilizations. The entries in the Ancient Innovations series introduce some of the best examples. Enhanced with illustrations, reproductions, and photographs, each book offers a brief historical and geographical background of the ancient culture and explains how these factors influenced the development of early technology. Chapters vary across titles but group technologies by theme. Ancient Greece takes a more liberal definition of technology. Although it focuses on the development of geometry, astronomy, medicine, and the golden ratio in architecture, it also discusses theater and devotes an entire chapter to democracy. A concluding statement on lasting influences follows with a chronology and a glossary.
